Job Description


1) Installs and monitors the performance of installed electrical equipment for hazards, adjustments, or replacement.

2)Repairs installs, replaces, and tests electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances using appropriate tools and testing instruments.

3)Leads, guides, and/or trains other electricians in applicable procedures and techniques.

4)Operates and maintains medium voltage switchgear and controls; may repair and maintain motor control centers and programmable logic controls.

5)Troubleshoots and repairs primary distribution system malfunctions such as ground fault tracing and cable replacement.

6)Plans electrical primary system extensions to power secondary systems.

7)May perform work of lower-level electricians.

8) Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

9) Reads employs and updates electrical panel schedules and building or system blueprints.

10) Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Skills Required

i) Knowledge of medium voltage systems and equipment, substations, multiple interconnected substations, and primary power distribution.

ii) Knowledge of National Electrical Code, NFPA-70E, OSHA 10-30, and the National Electrical Safety Code.

iii) Ability to use appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment to repair, install, replace, and test medium and low voltage electrical circuits, equipment and appliances.

iv) Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.

v) Ability to diagnose and repair electrical controls, industrial motor control centers, and programmable logic controllers for both primary and secondary systems.

vi) Ability to lead and/or train staff.

vii) Ability to read both commercial and industrial electrical blueprints and apply NEC, NFPA-70A, NESC, and OSHA 10-30 through the full range of commercial and industrial maintenance and construction work.

viii) Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures

xi) Ability to install and maintain motors, welding equipment, lighting fixtures, generators, circuit breakers, and transformers as appropriate to the position.

x) Ability to isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment.
